Deschutes County 9-1-1 History and Mission
The Deschutes County 9-1-1 Service District became a consolidated public safety dispatching agency in 1988, taking all calls for police, fire, and medical service assistance in Deschutes County. The District dispatches for 15 police and fire/emergency medical services (EMS) agencies and works closely with the U.S. Forest Service, AirLink, Oregon State Police, and other State and Federal entities. Calls requiring a response are entered into a computer assisted dispatch (CAD) system and field units are dispatched to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
In calendar year 2016, dispatchers answered 256,541 incoming phone calls, of which 66,989 were on 9-1-1. That's an average of 702 calls a day which resulted in 283,598 dispatched incidents; 248,379 for law enforcement; 18,840 for EMS, 6,967 fire and 9,412 for other agencies or for notifications.
The District covers over 3,100 square miles with a population of about 182,000 people, including portions of Jefferson County within the Crooked River Ranch and Sisters/Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection Districts. The area also receives around 3.2 million visitors each year who may need assistance.
The mission of Deschutes County 9-1-1 is to provide prompt assistance in a caring, resourceful and professional manner to those we serve. The center is an enhanced 9-1-1 facility which also provides standards-based lifesaving public emergency care.
