If you or someone you know is in crisis, you should contact the crisis line by dialing 988 or (541)322-7500 x9 or call (800) 875-7364 (toll free) or walk into the Stabilization Center which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

At times, hospitalization may be necessary for the safety of the individual and others. In these cases, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

What are Crisis Services?

Crisis services is a 24-hour program that responds by phone or face-to-face. Services may include assessment, intervention planning, information and referral services. In addition, we provide brief crisis stabilization through individual or group treatment.

Who can use Crisis Services?

Crisis services are provided to any individual in need; Oregon Health Plan coverage is not required.

Public Safety Services

Crisis Services also performs investigations and consultations for individuals who are alleged to be mentally ill and a danger to self or others. Investigators prepare cases for civil commitment, assist families with two-party petitions and assist in the placement of individuals in treatment.

What is the Stabilization Center?

The Deschutes County Stabilization Center (DCSC) serves children and adults who are in need of short-term, mental health crisis assessment and stabilization, but do not require the medical capabilities of an acute care hospital or longer-term residential care. The DCSC welcomes individuals to walk in when they are experiencing a mental health crisis, or they can be referred by local law enforcement and other community partners. 

The Stabilization Center provides a wide array of crisis services to community including: crisis walk-in appointments, adult respite services, Forensic Diversion Programs, peer support, and more.

Walk-in Crisis Services

Provides immediate access to a Master’s level therapist for individuals experiencing a crisis. Open to people of all ages, regardless of ability to pay, in a safe and confidential environment. No appointment necessary. Brief stabilization.

Short-Term Respite Unit

A voluntary 5 recliner short-term respite unit for adults experiencing a mental health crisis. Provides a quiet and peaceful environment for individuals to stabilize and get connected to appropriate community resources.

How do I qualify for voluntary short-term respite services?

After a crisis assessment with a Qualified Mental Health Clinician, if it is determined additional time and stabilization is indicated, a determination will be made for admission to respite.

Eligibility requires that the individual is:

  • Willing to come voluntarily and willing to participate in the admission process
  • In need of mental health services
  • Not aggressive or assaultive
  • Mobile, communicative, and not known to have a major infection or disease in a communicable stage
  • Individual is not perceived to be medically compromised.
Community Crisis Response Team (CCRT)(Formally MCAT- Mobile Crisis Assessment Team)

24/7, 365 days a year team that provides crisis intervention services out in the community. CCRT responds when called by various community partners, including Law Enforcement, to assess individuals in the community who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

Case Management

Liaisons with the hospital and with Brooks Respite for discharge planning, establishes crisis appointments, helps clients with basic needs and community resources.

Peer Support

Peer Support Specialists are individuals with lived life experience with mental health and/or substance use disorders who are in recovery. They offer support and encouragement to individuals struggling with a mental health condition.
