PURPOSE AND NEED

South Century Drive is an arterial road located in south Deschutes County connecting US97 to the Sunriver and Three Rivers communities and various destinations in the Deschutes National Forest. Along its length, South Century Drive intersects Huntington Rd, Spring River Rd and Venture Ln. These intersections experience safety-related and operational issues as traffic levels along the corridor continue to increase.

The intersections of South Century Drive with Huntington Road and Spring River Road are identified in the 2020-2040 Deschutes County Transportation System Plan (TSP) and High-Priority projects. The TSP also identifies improvement of the intersection of South Century Drive with Venture Lane as a Medium Priority Project. This intersection is identified as one of two intersections on the County’s road system that are anticipated to have a Level of Service “F” within the TSP horizon period.

The Department has obligated a portion of funds for improvement of the above-mentioned intersections in the Department’s 2026-2030 Road CIP. The Department will bundle the Preliminary Engineering for all three projects simultaneously. The Department anticipates that the South Century Drive/Huntington Road Roundabout project will be immediately advanced to construction, while the South Century Drive/Spring River Road Roundabout and South Century Drive/Venture Lane Intersection Improvement will undergo a comprehensive public involvement and refinement process before being advanced to construction. The Department anticipates significant community involvement in the refinement of the South Century Drive/Spring River Road Roundabout and South Century Drive/Venture Lane Intersection Improvement projects, with key community partners including the Sunriver Owners Association, Sunriver Business Park members, and Sunriver Resorts.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Project scope includes:

Installation of single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of South Century Drive with:
- Huntington Rd
- Spring River Rd
- Venture Ln
Construction of bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements at each intersection
Installation of new Signage, pavement markings, and other miscellaneous improvements
