Child Care Facilities
Deschutes County Environmental Health provides professional health, safety and sanitation expertise to Child Care Centers and Certified Family Child Care homes on behalf the the Department of Early Learning and Care. Deschutes County also reviews and approves plans required of Child Care Centers prior to opening, construction or remodel.
Environmental Health also inspects residential treatment centers as requested by the institution based on their licensing needs.

Types of Licensed Child Care Facilities in Oregon
Child Care Center or "Center" is a child care facility that is certified to care for thirteen or more children, or a facility that is certified to care for twelve or fewer children and located in a building constructed as other than a single family dwelling.
Certified Family Child Care Home or “Home” is a child care facility located in a building constructed as a single family dwelling that has a certificate to care for a maximum of 16 children at any one time.
For Child Care Centers, floor plans shall be submitted to the environmental health specialist, the fire marshal and the buildings department prior to initial construction or remodel. The center shall be approved by an environmental health specialist registered under ORS chapter 700, or an authorized representative of the Health Division, and by a state or local fire marshal, before a certificate is issued by OCC.
Deschutes County Environmental Health (DCEH) provides inspection and plan review services for child care facilities licensed by the state. To request an inspection:
Fill out the Program Details and General Facility Information on the Sanitation Inspection Form. Both the Center and Home forms are linked at the bottom of this page under "Supporting Documents". Bring the Sanitation Inspection Form to our office along with payment and an inspector will then come to your facility to conduct the inspection. Please follow these steps to request your inspection, and return the payment and form at least two weeks before your license renewal date to ensure our inspectors can work you into their schedule in a timely manner.
