The Environmental Health Specialists' primary job is to minimize or eliminate potentially harmful situations in public places and to contain and stop the spread of diseases if and when they occur.
Food, Pool, and Lodging facilities licensed by Deschutes County Environmental Health are inspected once or twice a year depending on seasonality and statutory requirements.
If you intend to open or remodel a restaurant or mobile food unit, you must complete the Permanent Food Establishment Plan Review application process. Learn more about the process here.
Environmental Health provides both food handler training and certification, and Food Safety Manager Training.
Through education and routine inspections, we hope to make Deschutes County a safe and healthy environment for residents and guests to enjoy.
