Historic Landmarks Commission and Preservation Programs
The Deschutes County Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC), is part of a nationwide network of groups dedicated to the preservation and celebration of our architectural heritage. The five-member HLC serves as a citizen advisory body to the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners and the Sisters City Council. The role of the HLC is to assist property owners in rural Deschutes County and the City of Sisters preserve historically and architecturally significant buildings and sites.
Historic Preservation Strategic Plan
The Deschutes County Community Development Department has developed a historic preservation strategic plan for rural Deschutes County and the City of Sisters. Staff conducted a series of public meetings providing stakeholders, historic landmark owners, and community members opportunity to provide feedback that helped prioritize preservation programs. In addition, an informal online survey was available to submit comments. The strategic plan provides a framework for shaping the rural county and Sisters’ preservation programs and services over a five year period to create a blueprint for allocating Certified Local Government (CLG) grant funding.
